| Elliot the cat lives with Bernard in an old lighthouse on the harbour wall. Fish is Elliot's favourite thing. | | When Elliot hears Bernard say: 'What a lovely day to go fishing', Elliot wonders if he 'can do fishing'. He tries, but his paw won't quite reach the fish. So Elliot decides to go fishing with Bernard. Bernard won't even know he's there. Out at sea there are lots of fish, but Elliot still can't reach them. Then a big wave hits the boat. Down goes Elliot and down goes the bucket. Elliot still can't reach the fish but something is trying to reach him. Quick thinking from Elliot, and unexpected help from another huge wave, gets him home. Elliot sits soaking and shivering, waiting for Bernard. When Bernard arrives, he asks Elliot if it's been raining. Elliot feels rather grumpy but all's well ends well. | | Great to read aloud and older readers will love reading it themselves. | | Elena Gomez's fantastic, bright, 'water-splashy' pictures leap out but, at the same time, take you right there. On some pages the text dances in waves. I just love this book.
