Naomi King's humble opinion
8/10 You are working hard. Well done.
What's it about?
A story about a girl, Midge, who stays at her uncle's old farmhouse for a while then discovers there are faeries at the bottom of the garden- literally.
What happens?
Midge discovers an ancient, tangled wood near the bottom of one of her uncle's fields, in which she later realises is the home to all sorts of "little people" who she has to help survive. The story starts when she finds an injured flying, talking horse in her uncle's unused shed.
Is it easy to read?
It's very fun to read, and is a fairy tale aimed at children. The author is good at handling thoughts and feelings and makes his characters likable and the story fairly believable. However some parts are highly confusing, especially at the very end.
Anything else?
It is a beautifully imaginative book with a very attractive cover, and is probably intended to be the first of a small series or triology. I groaned at the little bit of wishy-washy philosophy at the end, but all in all it was a great story to read.

...the narrative pace never falters...the reader is drawn gladly into the enchantment.
