Mrs Mad's humble opinion
9/10 Very good. I am pleased with this.
What's it about?
Bek and Jez must fight to the death in the Shandrim Arena and the Magician Selkor is attempting to gather the Keys of Power.
What happens?
Following their betrayal by Calvyn, Bek and Jez have been sent to fight in the Arena in Shandrim. They are kept as prisoners only allowed out of their cells to fight for the Emperor's amusement. Stunned by Calvyn's shocking betrayal Bek knows that no one is coming to save them and that they must find their own way to survive and escape, if they can. Whilst the two friends are learning to fight in the Arena, Perdimmon the Magician is trying to get to the other Warders, before Selkor finds them. He must stop Selkor gaining control of any of the Keys of the Elemental Powers, if he fails Selkor will be able to Weild unbelievable power and the world will be in terrible danger.
Is it easy to read?
These books need a good level of concentration and stamina. A very good choice for boys as well as girls.
Anything else?
Third in the Darkweaver Legacy quartet. Mark Robson gets better with each story, this is by far the best, the intricacies and turns from one set of characters to another is masterful. There is so much going on here and yet he holds it all together with style. His descriptions of life in the gladiatorial arena are brilliant and will enthral any young reader who liked Gladiator. Again he picks out new characters to fill out and we see different aspects of all the heroes from the last two books. They are all here and I can only wonder how he keeps so many threads of the storyline going in his head. A brilliant book!
Other books by Mark Robson include The Chosen One, The Forging of the Sword, The Trail of the Huntress.
Who says so?
This review by Mrs Mad.
The publisher reckons...
Tells of Bek and Jez as they face the trials of the arena, and of Perdimmon's journey to find and warn the other Warders about Selkor's vow to collect the Keys which they guard.
